About Firehouse Ministries

Firehouse Ministries serves the chronically homeless male population, men who traditionally have the most barriers and are the most expensive to serve, for both the nonprofit and the community at large. We have been open since 1983, and have stayed true to our original mission. We predominantly serve the Birmingham area, but our Street Outreach teams travel to surrounding areas throughout Jefferson County as needed. Addressing and meeting the needs in the area of emergency sheltering and housing is absolutely necessary to increasing the stability of our clients, with the ultimate goal of getting the men into permanent supportive housing. The Firehouse offers emergency services (soup kitchen open to everyone, clothing closet, case management, emergency shelter) and many housing options including permanent housing (70 beds), transitional housing (59 beds), and Safe Haven, which is housing for men with mental illness (24 beds). We are low barrier and serve those with no ability to pay.
